#Mind Blog New Series about Mental Health

“Rule your mind or it will rule you.” – Buddha

I wanted to talk about this for a long time here, and what better time to start a new series? When your blog just made 4 years (last Sunday).

It’s no surprise for anyone that mental health is one of the main problems in our planet. From anxiety, depressions, self confidence, PTSD,etc..
A few months ago, 2 people committed suicide where I live. One was a relative of a friend of mine that actually made me think, “Why?” “how can someone not be afraid of death?” “how can someone feel that lonely or stressed or whatever to do something like that?”, and the most important to me was “How can nobody noticed that that person was feeling that way before?”

The immediate answer my brain gave me was “nobody would listen, and if they did they would probably judge” – here starts the problem.
People can be so self-centered that they don’t even know what is going on around them, sometimes they do but for them is so easy to “solve” the problem they think it’s silly to be sad, worried about that.

I’m sure sometime in your life you’ve felt like this:

  • I can’t talk about it or people will judge me
  • They don’t understand how this feels
  • They will laugh at me
  • I don’t have who to talk with
  • I feel too stressed
  • I feel lonely even though I’m surrounded by people
  • I don’t know what is happening with me
  • I talked to this friend but he/she ignored my problem

The list goes on…

Some of those problems start “small” (they can be huge for you but what I mean is, it can get worse), then it gets bigger and bigger to the point you don’t know what to do, or even have the will to do something. You’re just here but you don’t want to be – That’s what I think that person may have felt.

I could say, it wasn’t that person friends and family fault. In one hand I won’t because I believe it’s our society’s fault.
Sometimes a “Hi” can make such a difference but we don’t see it / or want to see it.
On the other hand, I know sometimes because people feel like that they don’t even try to share it anymore and they can hide it very very well! – so please if you’re a person that had someone committing suicide please breath and take some action after that, know that it can happen to anyone and you should be there for them as much as you can, and they are NOT blaming you for what happened.

Because of that story and because I know how it feels not having someone to talk with, I’ve decided to make something about that.
I try my best with people I personally know but there’s also so many people needing help around the world!
I decided to search online how could I help, I searched in my country but they have some problems, starting with lack of privacy and ending with it’s still old fashioned methods.

I later search for something anonymous and I found out 7cups.com.

It’s an app / website for those who want to help by listen to others OR GET HELP OR SOMEONE TO LISTEN.

When you register you can choose if you want to be a listener or a member, according to what you want: to listen or to talk. BOTH are anonymous. (Yes you have to put your email and all those things, but the person you’re talking with won’t know who you are and CANNOT JUDGE YOU). Plus it’s worldwide so if you don’t know English go to the “search listener” tab and find someone that will speak your language.

IT’S FREE!

One thing I would like to mention here is, people that are listening to you are volunteers, so must are NOT therapist and they also have jobs or school so they can’t be there for you 24h/day. They may reply late but please don’t think it is on purpose. If somehow you need a reply ASAP you can always try another listener.

You can also get therapy there, there’s a free trial but then you’ll have to pay for it.

Whatever the problem is, you can go there and talk. If someone is rude to you or isn’t actually helping (because it’s anonymous some people register as listeners so they can get money, info about other people etc. THAT’S NOT ALLOWED!) please report them.

For people that want to be listeners: PLEASE KEEP IN MIND SOMETIMES THE CONVERSATIONS MAY TRIGGER YOU, IF YOU’RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT JUST TELL THE MEMBER TO SEARCH FOR ANOTHER LISTENER BECAUSE IT’S ALSO AFFECTING YOU. ONLY REGISTER IF YOU TRULY WANNA HELP.

If you want to talk to me specifically you can, just search for @radiantHoliday82

I will have some exercises / tutorials / interviews, etc for the next #mind posts so if you have a suggestion for other related posts feel free to tell me 🙂

I hope you all be happy!
